Installing A Type-K MI Cable Replacement Thermocouple
For a short period of time we used what is called a MI Cable Thermocouple. These look like little metal tubes and require a 1/4 inch hole in the brick as opposed to the 1/2 inch hole used by a Standard Type-K Thermocouple. We still use them on our glass kilns but we can no longer source ones that work well at ceramic temperatures. If you are replacing one of these on a ceramic kiln you will need to use the Standard Type-K Thermocouple instructions and drill out the thermocouple hole in the brick to accommodate the 1/2 inch thermocouple.
